How much does Etsy take from a sale?

Etsy does not take one flat percent. On a US Etsy Payments order the public bill is a stack: a 6.5% transaction fee, a separate payment processing fee, a $0.20 listing fee when that line applies, and Offsite Ads only if that order is attributed. What you keep is the buyer’s item and shipping minus those lines and the cost you actually pay.

Not affiliated with Etsy. Estimates only — not your Payment account and not tax advice. Rates below were read from Etsy’s public help and Fees & Payments Policy on 3 Oct 2026. They can change. If a number here disagrees with your statement, use Etsy’s fees and taxes help.

AfterFees 0.3.0 runs that stack on your computer, next to the listing price. No Etsy password.

The lines on one US sale

Transaction 6.5% of the order amount in your listing currency, including shipping and gift wrap you charge. Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy says a US sale’s transaction fee does not apply to sales tax. Separate from processing.
Payment processing Country rate plus a flat fee, on the total sale price including shipping and sales tax if you charge tax. The public processing table’s United States row is 3% + $0.25 USD for a US bank account. Confirm the row for your bank country.
Listing $0.20 USD to publish a listing. It expires after 4 months. Auto-renew is another $0.20. Selling extra quantity in one order is $0.20 for each additional unit — the first unit was already charged when you listed it.
Offsite Ads Only on an attributed offsite order: 15% if the shop made under $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days, 12% at or above that, and never more than $100 on that order. Not the same as on-site Etsy Ads.
Your cost Not an Etsy fee. Blank, print, and the shipping you pay come out of what you keep. AfterFees does not log into Printify or Printful — you type the dollars.

Sources, all public: fees and taxes, payment processing fees, Fees & Payments Policy, Offsite Ads. Regulatory operating fees on that help page are for other countries, not the US. A 2.5% currency conversion fee applies only when the listing currency and payment-account currency differ.

One illustration, not your invoice

$28.00 item, $4.50 shipping charged to the buyer, no gift wrap, no sales-tax assumption, quantity 1, Offsite Ads off, and you include the $0.20 listing line. Using the public rates above and half-up cents:

Item + shipping$32.50
Transaction 6.5%$2.11
Processing 3% + $0.25$1.23
Listing$0.20
Etsy lines in this sketch$3.54

If your unit cost is $12.00, the sketch leaves $16.96 before anything else you pay. Turn Offsite on at 15% and that same $32.50 order adds about $4.88, still under the $100 cap. Etsy’s own rounding can differ by about a cent. This is not a Payment account screenshot.

Check it before you publish

  1. Type the price and what the unit costs you.
  2. Leave processing and the 6.5% transaction line on. Add the $0.20 listing line only if you want it in this sale.
  3. Flip Offsite Off, then 15% or 12%, and see whether the $100 cap matters.
  4. Read estimated take-home on your machine. Nothing is uploaded.

Install is live (AfterFees 0.3.0). Fee lines stay free. Pro is planned memory and what-if — not billed on this site.

FAQ

Is it just 6.5%?

No. 6.5% is the transaction fee. US payment processing is a separate 3% + $0.25 on the public table, and listing and Offsite Ads can add more. A single blended percent hides the flat $0.25 and the $100 Offsite cap.

Does this match the amount Etsy deposits?

No. Your Payment account is the record. AfterFees is an estimate you run before you publish, using rates you can turn on or off.

Does every order pay Offsite Ads?

No. Etsy charges Offsite Ads when a buyer clicks an offsite ad and purchases in the attribution window. The extension does not see that. You pick Off, 15%, or 12% as a what-if. Details are on the Offsite take-home page.

What about Etsy Ads, tax, and labels?

On-site Etsy Ads are a separate ad budget, not a percent of this order. Sales tax the buyer pays is not money you keep. A shipping label is whatever the label costs — type what you pay, don’t treat it as a published percent.

Will these rates stay the same?

Don’t count on it. Re-read Etsy’s fees help when a deposit looks different. This page is a 3 Oct 2026 snapshot.
